Public
awareness and intolerance of noise in the workplace has increased over the
past thirty years. Workplace noise can cause deafness, mask warning signals,
interfere with communications, increase worker stress and reduce productivity.
Excessive vibration can be harmful to tool and machine operators. Industrial noise and vibration arises from a wide range of activities, processes, machines and tools. It is not necessarily confined to the workplace, and often contributes to environmental noise in areas surrounding the industrial plant.
